Seven-Day Deep Jungle Expedition

From Riverbeds to Mountain Peaks – A Responsible Sumatra Jungle Expedition

Step into a week-long journey through the living heart of Sumatra, trekking from Bukit Lawang to Kutacane inside the protected rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park.

This expedition is designed for travelers who seek deep connection, not just distance. Moving thoughtfully through riverbeds, dense jungle trails, and up to a mountain summit, you’ll experience the rainforest as a fragile, living ecosystem—guided by respect for wildlife and nature.

Along the way, you may encounter wild orangutans, elephants, gibbons, and countless other forest species. Sightings of elusive animals like the Sumatran tiger are rare and never guaranteed, but every sign of life—tracks, calls, or movement in the canopy—is a powerful reminder of how alive this forest is.

This trek is about learning to walk lightly: observing, listening, and understanding the jungle rather than conquering it. Each step supports conservation efforts and local communities who help protect one of the world’s most important rainforests.

"An epic journey, guided by nature. A true adventure that leaves the jungle just as wild as you found it."

The Journey

Day One – Stepping Into the Rainforest

Start: 8:30 AM

After breakfast, your local jungle guides will pick you up from your guesthouse at 8:30 AM and lead you into the rainforest in search of wild orangutans.

Today’s trek lasts around 6–7 hours, moving at a steady, respectful pace. Along the way, your guides will share knowledge about jungle wildlife, ancient trees, and plants traditionally used as natural medicine.

After lunch, continue deeper into the forest, where you may encounter Thomas’ leaf monkeys, gibbons, macaques, hornbills, peacocks, and monitor lizards. By late afternoon, you’ll reach your eco-campsite near Mount Langkup, beside the peaceful Landak River. Enjoy time by the river, help prepare dinner, or learn basic jungle skills before falling asleep to the sounds of the forest.

Day Two – Following the River’s Rhythm

Today you continue trekking along the river, quietly observing wildlife that may come to drink nearby.

Before sunset, your guides will set up camp. Spend the afternoon swimming, relaxing, or learning how to build a tent using traditional jungle methods.

Day Three – Deeper Into Wild Territory

After breakfast, trek deeper into untouched forest. This area is home to larger and more elusive animals such as Sumatran elephants, deer, and—if luck allows—signs of the Sumatran tiger.

You’ll camp in the Bekail area, surrounded by dense rainforest and natural silence.

Days Four & Five – Waterfall & Forest Time

Slow down and fully immerse yourself in the rainforest around Bekail River.

Your campsite is near a stunning 20-meter waterfall, offering time to swim, relax, and observe the forest without rushing. These days are about patience, presence, and letting the jungle reveal itself.

Day Six – Above the Canopy

Today the trail climbs to higher ground, where the terrain becomes more challenging and the air cooler.

You’ll camp on a moss-covered mountaintop, rewarded with wide jungle views, fresh mountain air, and a peaceful night surrounded by nature.

Day Seven – Returning to the Valley

On your final day, trek downhill through forest and valleys, gradually leaving the wilderness behind.

By afternoon, you’ll arrive in the welcoming village of Kutacane, completing a journey shaped by nature, respect, and discovery.
